RPO guide

What RPO can mean for your recruitment team.

A practical introduction to recruitment process outsourcing, its scope and common delivery models.

Recruitment process outsourcing is an arrangement in which an external partner supports agreed recruitment activities. The scope can be narrow or broad, so the label matters less than a clear description of who does what.

Start with the service boundary

A sourcing assignment may end with a set of research records. A broader arrangement can connect screening, candidate communication and interview administration. Before comparing providers, write down the stages you want supported, the decisions you will retain and the information needed at each handover.

Understand the common models

A dedicated model allocates agreed capacity to recurring work. Project RPO focuses on a defined requirement with completion criteria. Modular support addresses selected activities. Full-cycle support connects several stages, but still needs explicit approval points and owners for hiring, verification and employment decisions.

  • Dedicated: continuing capacity for recurring work
  • Project: a defined brief and completion point
  • Modular: support for selected process stages

Judge the operating arrangement

Ask how the partner will learn the brief, handle information, report progress and resolve exceptions. Consider the time your own team will spend on guidance and review. A pilot can test the workflow before a larger commitment. RPO does not guarantee placements or remove the need for capable client decision-makers; its value depends on fit, execution and clear accountability.
