Some recruitment workflows continue beyond a core office day. A defined out-of-hours arrangement can help organise specified tasks, provided responsibilities, access and escalation contacts are clear.

Define the window and the work

Establish the days, hours and activities needed. This may involve approved availability checks, booking administration, inbox triage or the preparation of a morning handover. Coverage is limited to the agreed support window; it does not include automatic emergency cover.

Prepare the handover

Record live requirements, current status, approved information and the decisions that may arise. The supporting team needs a practical route to an authorised contact, including what to do if that person cannot be reached. A handover should distinguish urgent exceptions from work that can wait. The next team should be able to see what changed, what remains open and who has been informed.

Agree the limits before starting

Confirm staffing capability, communication channels, operating hours and any response targets in the agreement. Clinical, safeguarding, employment and payment decisions must follow the client’s authorised process. Review the quality of handovers and unresolved issues before considering a wider coverage requirement.
