The new Welsh insight series
On 18 July 2024, Social Care Wales published news of its first annual Workforce Insight Series. The briefings brought together research about the social care workforce in Wales and aimed to inform attraction, recruitment and retention. They supported its workforce strategy and used information about the experiences that mattered to people doing the work.
This was Welsh workforce evidence, not a description of every care setting across the UK. Our interpretation is that recruitment teams should retain that geographic precision. A useful cross-border service can share administrative discipline while adapting role information, communication and escalation routes to the organisation and nation involved.
Listen to the workforce in its own context
A single campaign template may overlook travel realities, service models, language preferences or the professional requirements associated with a role. Candidates need an accurate account of where and how they will work. Recruiters should ask the employer to approve those details instead of assuming that an advert used successfully elsewhere can be copied unchanged.
Workforce listening also needs a route into action. If candidate questions and staff feedback stay in separate systems, recurring concerns may never reach the person who can change the brief. Information should be summarised responsibly, with small groups protected from identification and a distinction between an individual comment and a wider pattern.
Use the evidence to sharpen a local brief
Key Med can support locally tailored sourcing, candidate engagement and recruitment administration within an agreed client process. We can maintain nation- and service-specific briefing fields, record questions and organise the handover to responsible managers. The client and its specialists determine the relevant professional, employment and regulatory requirements.
For a UK-wide campaign, build a common administrative framework with approved local variations. Record location, working pattern, language requirements where relevant, and the owner of any unresolved question. Review candidate responses by campaign rather than treating all regions as one pool. This provides more useful information without claiming that a shared recruitment process removes local differences.
