The new agency price-card version needed a controlled changeover

NHS England’s agency price-card page was updated in March 2026 for the next financial year. Staffing teams needed effective dates, clear approvals and a way to resolve bookings that crossed the changeover.

The update for the next financial year

NHS England’s agency price-card publication page was updated on 27 March 2026 and displayed the 2026/27 price card. The page had originally been published in April 2024. The difference between those dates is important: a familiar URL may hold a new financial-year reference even when a team recognises the publication name.

Our operational interpretation is that a yearly update should trigger a controlled review of the records and instructions used by the desk. It should not rely on staff noticing that a spreadsheet has changed. This article describes the update and its administrative implications, rather than giving current rate advice for any role or contract.

A continuing booking can cross the boundary

Bookings agreed before a change may be amended afterwards, while invoices and timesheets can be processed in another period. Teams need to know which approved reference and authorisation applies to each case. Copying the newest rate into every old record can be as misleading as continuing to use an obsolete version for new work.

A changeover plan should identify the authoritative document, the client-approved effective date and the owner of exceptions. Recruiters, bookings staff and finance administrators need the same explanation. Where a case is unclear, it should be flagged for a decision before a revised commitment is presented to a worker or client as final.

Prepare the reference and exception handover

Key Med can support the administrative changeover through version registers, booking checks and pay-and-bill preparation based on approved instructions. We can compare records, collect missing approvals and maintain a queue of unresolved exceptions. Decisions about the applicable rules, rates and contractual treatment remain with the client and its qualified advisers.

A practical review samples bookings created before the change, bookings created after it and cases amended across the boundary. Trace each through confirmation and financial preparation. We can help document the findings and update desk instructions so the next annual change is easier to supervise, without claiming that a spreadsheet check guarantees compliance or eliminates billing errors.
