The bank workforce needed its own staff-survey conversation

The March 2026 release included a distinct bank-only workforce survey. Recruitment teams needed to respect its coverage and comparability while asking how flexible workers experienced communication, handovers and their route into work.

A distinct survey for bank-only staff

NHS England confirmed publication of the 2025 NHS Staff Survey results on 12 March 2026. Its survey information also described a separate bank-only workers survey and cautioned that those findings were not directly comparable with the main survey. The distinction reflected differences in the groups covered and the survey arrangements.

For recruitment operations, the lesson is to understand the population behind a result before combining it with another measure. Our interpretation is that permanent staff, bank-only workers and agency workers may have different administrative journeys. Evidence about one group should not be presented as a complete account of another group’s experience.

Look at the route flexible workers actually use

A flexible worker can be recorded as onboarded but still lack practical information about whom to contact, how a shift is confirmed or what happens when a requirement changes. These are operational questions that affect confidence. A staffing desk needs to know which organisation owns each response, especially where recruitment and bookings are handled by different teams.

Survey comparisons should also remain honest. Do not merge percentages simply because the questions sound similar or use a headline from one population to advertise another route into work. Managers should review the relevant methodology and local context, then decide which questions can inform a recruitment or onboarding improvement.

Join the booking conversation to the workplace handover

Key Med can support candidate communication, bookings administration and approved onboarding workflows. We can maintain clear contact instructions, organise confirmation records and prepare recurring questions for the employer’s review. The client remains responsible for workforce policy, staff experience and interpreting survey results or making claims about its workplace.

A practical starting point follows a bank worker’s administrative journey from initial interest through the first confirmed assignment. Identify duplicated requests, unclear handovers and unanswered questions without collecting unnecessary personal information. We can help organise those findings and implement approved process changes, using the survey as a prompt for investigation rather than claiming that one administrative step proves improved staff experience.
