Workforce pressure in the wider care picture
CQC published State of Care 2022/23 on 20 October 2023. Its workforce chapter considered pressures affecting the health and care workforce as part of a broader assessment of access, quality and inequalities. The report brought together evidence about services in England, rather than acting as a recruitment checklist for every provider or professional role.
The connection with recruitment is our operational interpretation: when staffing pressures affect service delivery, managers need a dependable account of the people and processes involved. A useful record distinguishes an identified requirement, an approved booking, a completed check and a confirmed attendance. Those are different events and should not share one ambiguous status.
Can a manager follow the staffing trail?
Fast-moving staffing desks often rely on messages, spreadsheets and individual memory. A late change can leave one team believing a shift is covered while another is still looking for someone suitable. The risk is particularly visible when work crosses office hours or moves between recruitment staff and a service manager.
Good evidence also has boundaries. A document being received does not mean it has been assessed, and a completed administrative checklist does not determine clinical competence. Teams need named approvers, clear escalation points and records of outstanding issues. Access should be proportionate, with sensitive information routed through authorised channels rather than copied into broad operational updates.
Organise evidence for an accountable handover
Key Med can provide bookings administration, recruitment coordination and compliance-process support within the client’s agreed controls. This can include chasing missing information, maintaining expiry reminders and preparing exception lists for review. The provider remains responsible for safe staffing, professional assessment, regulatory obligations and any decision to permit a person to work.
A practical first step is to test a handful of recent bookings from initial request to final confirmation. Identify where information changed, who needed to know and whether the handover was recorded. We can help standardise that trail and maintain a concise open-issues view so that responsible managers have clearer information when making time-sensitive decisions.
